Giveaways

The Giveaways module posts a giveaway message on Discord with a “Join” button. Kotbo counts the entries, draws the winners, applies your entry requirements and lets you draw again if needed.

The page has three tabs: Giveaways, Templates and Configuration.

Click Start a Giveaway

The form opens, with a preview of the announcement next to the fields.

Start from a template, or not

Start from a template, at the top of the form, fills every field at once. Nothing is locked: fix whatever you want before launching.

Describe the prize

Prize / Reward is required; the Description carries the conditions or any extra detail.

Set the draw

Number of Winners, then how it ends: either a Duration (minutes, hours or days, with presets) or an End date in the future, at most a year away.

Pick the channel

The server’s default channel is offered up front. Then click Send to Discord.

The announcement preview shows the message as it will go out: your server and your host name, with a fictitious prize, participants and winners. Discord shows the end as a countdown that updates on its own.

Folded under More options, rarely needed:

  • Strictly equal draw: this giveaway ignores the favoured roles and the clan bonus, without changing anything in the server settings.
  • This giveaway also grants RPG module rewards: coins, RPG XP or an item, on top of the prize. Most giveaways put up a prize handed over by hand, without touching the server economy.
  • Require staff validation before handing out the prize.
  • Announcement look: see below.

Every giveaway picks where its look comes from:

ChoiceWhat it gives
Plain announcementThe bot’s stock announcement. Nothing from the Configuration tab applies to it.
Server lookWhat the Configuration tab carries. The giveaway follows along when you change it there.
Its ownThe fields entered leave with the giveaway and never move again, images included.

Every giveaway in the list shows its status (Active or Ended), its entry count, its number of winners and its end date. A giveaway with a strictly equal draw says so with a tag.

ButtonEffect
Pick WinnerEnd this giveaway now? The winners are drawn and the prizes handed out right away. The giveaway cannot be reopened.
RerollDraw another winner? One more winner is drawn among the entrants who have not won yet, and receives their prize. Winners already named keep theirs.
Delete the giveawayThe giveaway and its Discord announcement are removed for good.

Drawn winners appear under the giveaway. When staff validation is required, they are listed under Winner(s) awaiting validation. Clicking a name opens the member’s file.

A template is a launch set aside: the same fields, saved under a name. You write and fix them here; to reuse one, open Start a giveaway and pick it at the top of the form.

Every card shows the prize, the winners, the duration, and tags where they apply: No channel (the template will take the server’s at launch), No bonus, Own look, Server look, From a configuration. The preview button shows the announcement as it will go out.

Deleting a template leaves the giveaways already launched from it untouched.

The entry rules hold for all the giveaways of the server. The look only applies to giveaways started from Discord and to those that ask for it in their form.

Sets who can start, end, reroll and delete a giveaway. These roles add to the administrators and the members with Manage Messages, and get the /giveaway command on Discord.

It carries three subcommands: /giveaway start, which takes the prize, the winners, the duration, a template, the description, the channel, the RPG rewards and the validation flag; /giveaway end and /giveaway reroll, which ask for the giveaway id - the one the announcement’s footer carries.

Offered up front when a giveaway is started. It stays editable each time, and a template carrying its own channel takes precedence.

  • Required roles: leave empty to open giveaways to the whole server.
  • Excluded roles: they win over the required roles. An excluded member can never enter.

Age and level demanded before the Join button can be clicked. 0 demands nothing.

  • Discord account age (days): keeps out accounts created for the occasion.
  • Time on the server (days): keeps out members who arrived just for the giveaway.
  • Minimum level: uses the level from the Leveling module.
  • One person, one entry: accounts recognised as belonging to the same member in the Moderation section enter only once, and count only once in the draw. See Alt accounts.

Roles whose holders count several times in the draw. The most favourable role applies: roles do not stack.

Carry over the winning clan bonus adds the chances of the clan rewarded by the Clans section on top. Every tied clan benefits, and nothing is granted until a season has named a winner. Unchecked, giveaways ignore that bonus even if it stays active in the Clans section.

Announce the favoured roles adds the list of roles and their chances to the announcement, where the matching variable sits.

Four colours depending on the giveaway’s state - Running giveaway, Awaiting validation, Finished giveaway, Validated winners - then the Title, the Body, the Footer (which carries the giveaway ID, the one the end and reroll commands ask for), the Thumbnail and the Large image.

Label (80 characters at most), Emoji - picked among the server’s or from the Unicode catalogue, it also shows on the greyed-out button of a finished giveaway - and Button colour: Blue, Grey, Green or Red.

What the bot answers entrants and announces at the close: Winners announcement, No-entrant announcement, Join reply and Leave reply, the last two seen by that entrant alone.

The refusal messages cover each requirement: excluded role, missing required role, account too new, joined too recently, level too low, another account already entered. Explain how to become eligible instead of refusing without a reason.

Every save keeps a named copy of these settings, and a button puts it back without retyping everything. The save dialog asks for the name, or the save to overwrite, and offers to also create a template under this name.

A save can be renamed and deleted; deleting it leaves the configuration in place on the server untouched.

A public link shares the list of giveaways with no login and no dashboard access. Visitors see the Active and Ended giveaways, the time left, the entry count and the drawn winners. Every giveaway has its own detail page, with the host, the channel and a View on Discord link.

Entering, though, always happens from the Discord message with the “Join” button.
