Reaction roles

The Reaction Roles module posts a message with buttons on Discord. One click grants the associated role, and depending on the mode you choose, a second click removes it or not.

Where to find it

The Community → Reaction roles section: Open reaction roles ↗. Kotbo needs the Manage roles permission, and its own role must sit above the roles it grants in the server hierarchy.

Deploying a panel

Click Deploy a Panel

The form opens with a live Discord preview on the right.

Fill in the title and channel

Panel Title / Message (for example Pick your notification roles) and Destination Channel.

Choose the button mode

Button mode applies to the whole panel, and each button may depart from it. See below.

Add your buttons

For each button: an Emoji (optional), a Button Label, an Associated Role, the Colour of this button and optionally a Mode of this button. The Add a button button creates more.

Deploy

Click Deploy Panel. Kotbo posts the message on Discord.

Label and role are required

All buttons must have a label and a role, otherwise Kotbo refuses to deploy.

Toggle or grant only

Mode	What a click does
Toggle	One click grants the role, a second one removes it.
Grant only	The role is granted once: clicking again does not remove it.

The mode is first chosen for the whole panel. Each button then keeps Panel mode or sets its own, which lets you mix a notification role members can switch off with an access role they do not hand back.

The text under the message title follows the mode in use: Kotbo states that the roles cannot be removed from there, or that some of them cannot be removed once granted.

Button colours

Every button carries its own Discord colour: Grey, Blue, Green or Red. It has no effect on the granting; it is there to tell families of roles apart in a panel that holds many.

The live preview

The Live Preview (Discord) panel reproduces exactly how the message will look before publishing. You can click the buttons there to check their layout.

Managing deployed panels

The Deployed Panels list shows each menu with its channel and roles. Two actions are available:

• Edit: reopens the form on the existing panel. Title, buttons, roles, colours and modes can all be changed, and the Discord message is updated as soon as you save - there is nothing to republish.
• Delete: Delete this role menu? The panel’s Discord message is deleted as well.

Changing the channel republishes the panel

If you point a deployed panel at another channel, Kotbo posts a new message in the chosen channel and deletes the old one. Members lose the original message, its pins and any links pointing at it.

If a channel or a role has been deleted from the server, Kotbo shows it as Unknown channel or Unknown role with its ID, which makes it easy to spot the panels that need fixing.
