Channels

The Channels page gathers the automations tied to your server’s channels: threads opened automatically, a message always visible at the bottom of a channel, counters in voice channel names, voice channels created on demand and a trap channel against spam.

The page has seven tabs: By channel, Auto threads, Pinned message, Counters, On-demand voice, Access requests and Trap channel.

The By channel tab, open by default, answers the question “what affects this channel?” without going through the other tabs.

It lists the server’s channels; each one expands into the features that affect it: automatic threads, log exclusion, trap channel, and the games of the Fun channels module.

Renaming and deleting a channel are also done from this tab.

Kotbo opens a thread for each new message in a channel, following the rules of a configuration. A channel can have several: they are tried in order, and the first one that accepts the message opens the thread.

Add a configuration walks through three questions:

  1. Where should threads be created? The Channel and the Configuration name.
  2. Which messages create a thread?
    • All messages, Text, Links or Media (images, videos, GIFs and stickers);
    • or Custom conditions, which combine conditions and groups: contains text, a link, media or an attachment, contains or starts with some text, matches a regular expression, minimum or maximum length, author has one of the roles or is a given member, sent by a bot, by a webhook, or is a reply. A group requires All conditions or At least one condition, and Invert the result takes the opposite.
  3. How should the thread be named? First line of the message, Author’s name, “Thread by author” and start of the message, Author’s name and date, or Custom rules: a title template, the first line, the embed title, or an extract through a regular expression. Rules are tried top to bottom, and the first one that produces a title wins. A Sample title shows the result.
  • Thread archiving: after 1 hour, 24 hours, 3 days or 1 week without messages.
  • Who can rename the thread?: Moderators only, Moderators and author or Everyone. Moderators always can; others use the /thread rename command, since the bot created the thread.
  • Bot and webhook messages: evaluate them too. They can open a thread but are never deleted.
  • Evaluation order: the configuration’s place among the channel’s.
  • JSON import / export: copy or download a configuration, and import one into the draft. The export contains role and member IDs: check it before sharing it.

What to do with non-matching messages? automatically deletes a message that no active configuration of the channel accepts, after a Delay (5 seconds to 1 hour), with an optional Warning ({user}, {channel}, {delay}). A configuration that accepts every message cannot do this.

Each configuration can be Duplicated, turned off or deleted. Deleting a configuration leaves the threads already created in place.

3. Pinned message (stuck to the bottom of a channel)

Section titled “3. Pinned message (stuck to the bottom of a channel)”

The Pinned message tab keeps a message always visible at the bottom of a channel. Whenever the channel piles up the set number of messages, Kotbo deletes its previous post and sends the message again at the very bottom.

Add a sticky message asks for:

  • Target channel and Message (it cannot be empty).
  • Display as an embed: a coloured box, with an Embed title and a colour.
  • Discord JSON: posts a full Discord payload (embeds and components) instead of plain text. An example to adapt is provided; unreadable JSON is refused.
  • Custom identity: posts through a webhook, under the Display name and Avatar you pick, instead of the bot’s identity. It needs the Manage Webhooks permission; the name cannot contain “discord” or “clyde”.
  • Repost after (messages) and Minimum delay between two reposts (seconds), which protects against Discord’s sending limits when the channel gets busy (0 to turn it off).
  • Active: pauses or resumes the message without deleting its configuration.
VariableResult
{server} or {serveur}Your server’s name
{membres}, {members} or {memberCount}Total number of members
{salons} or {channelCount}Number of channels
{boosts} or {boostCount}The server’s number of boosts
  • Repost now: forces an immediate repost without waiting for the message threshold.
  • Delete: removes the message still shown in the channel and erases the configuration.

The Counters tab shows server figures (members, bots, boosts…) in the name of dedicated voice channels.

Pick the Discord category for the statistics channels, or click Create category so Kotbo creates one.

Rebuilding statistics

Rebuild historical statistics rereads your channels’ old messages to fill the activity charts.

  • Run the scan: goes through the history in the background without touching the data already recorded.
  • Force re-scan: overwrites then recalculates all the server’s statistics. This action destroys the dashboard’s current history.
  1. Member counter: total number of users on the server.
  2. Bot counter: total number of bots.
  3. Role counter: number of members with a target role (e.g. @Staff).
  4. Channel counter: number of text and voice channels.
  5. Category counter: total number of categories.
  6. Activity counter (24h): members who wrote or joined a voice channel in the last 24 hours.

For each counter, point to an existing voice channel or let Kotbo create it, and customise the name template (e.g. Members: {count}).

Add a custom counter picks:

  • the Statistic type: total members, bots, online members, members in voice, specific role, total channels, categories, active (24h), server boosts, or member goal;
  • the Goal (target number), for the Member goal type (e.g. Goal: {count}/{goal});
  • the Name template, where {count} (and {goal}) are replaced by the real values.

Members create their own temporary voice channel and run it themselves with buttons. The tab is split into Generators, Permissions, Panel and Active channels.

  • Generator voice channel: as soon as a member joins it, Kotbo creates a temporary channel and moves them into it.
  • Creation category and Channel name template ({user} inserts the creator’s name, e.g. {user}'s channel).
  • Required role to use: reserves the generator for a role. It gates access to the generator, not the permissions inside the created channel.
  • Additional generator channels: other independent generators, each with its own channel, category, name template and required role.

Channel ownership decides what happens when the owner leaves their channel: a Handover delay to pick a successor, then Who can claim the channel: Members present or Moderators only. Staff can always claim a channel without an owner.

  • Default slots: 0 for no limit. The owner can change it later.
  • Lock: create the channel already locked. Only the owner and the roles allowed by default can join and write; staff keep access.
  • Channel text chat: Inherited (follows the category), Open or Closed.
  • Roles allowed by default: they see and join the channel without the owner having to add them, even when locked.
  • Owner powers: what the creator gets on their channel only - mute, deafen, move (needed for the panel’s “Kick” button), manage the channel and manage messages.

As soon as a channel is created, Kotbo posts a management message with buttons in its chat: lock or unlock, rename, limit the number of slots, kick or ban an intruder, open or close the chat.

Panel presentation sets how that message is shown: the Panel mode (V1, classic embed in columns; V2, what the bot sends today), its components, the layout and colours of the channel’s state, and where the Owner mention goes. Per-generator presentation lets each generator have its own settings; turning it off erases nothing.

Active temporary channels lists open channels, with their creator, members and reservation. Administrators can Rename them, change the reservation and Close channel.

When a temporary channel is locked or reserved, its panel shows a Request access button: someone outside can let the owner know without forcing their way in.

  • Who can answer: The owner only, or The owner and the staff.
  • Notify the owner by: The voice channel (a message in its chat, mentioning the owner), Direct message (discreet, but fails if their DMs are closed) or A dedicated channel for all the server’s requests, picked under Dedicated requests channel. If the main choice fails, a fallback kicks in on its own.
  • Request expiry (minutes): past this delay, the button becomes available again.
  • Cooldown after a denial (minutes): from 1 to 1440 minutes before asking again.

The tab also holds three on-demand voice settings:

  • Admin settings: what moderators may do on temporary channels, action by action - Allowed or Admins only. Staff roles are those from staff management.
  • Compact panel: sub-panels are rewritten in a single message, with a Back button, instead of opening a new one for every action.
  • Reservation: the Reservable roles offered by the Reserve channel button (empty: any role), what happens to People already present without the role (with a Fallback channel, otherwise they are disconnected), and what the button does for an owner with no reservable role: offer any role, pick members, or forbid reservation.

The Trap channel gets rid of spam bots and hacked accounts: anyone outside staff who writes in it is sanctioned on the spot.

  • Trap channel: pick a channel or click Create automatically. Kotbo creates a channel with the right permissions and posts a warning message in it.
  • Sanction to apply:
    • Timeout (default): a 28-day writing timeout.
    • Permanent ban: bans the account and deletes its messages from the last 24 hours.
    • Softban: bans then unbans right away, which purges their recent messages.
    • Kick: removes the member from the server.
    • Warning: records a warning in their file.
  • Automatic re-invite (with a kick): sends the kicked member a temporary invite by DM.

Save with the bar at the bottom of the screen.
